The SHAOLIN JAZZ - Album Cover Design Contest | 07.06.2011

With the response 2-Tone and Gerald “G-Money” Watson have received from SHAOLIN JAZZ (and most recently SHAOLIN JAZZ - Art) they wanted to further engage fans in a unique and creative way that would allow fans to interact with the project graphically, so they’ve developed The SHAOLIN JAZZ - Album Cover Design Contest.

The SHAOLIN JAZZ - Album Cover Design Contest is a month long competition (Wednesday July 6th - Monday August July 8th), whereby participants can submit designs or “graphic remixes” of the album cover with the winner receiving footwear courtesy of VANS OTW and apparel courtesy of Staple Design. The winner will be announced Wednesday August 10th.


1. Designers can submit up to two (2) album cover designs only

2. A design collective can only participate as one (1) designer - submitting only two (2) designs

3. Size specs: 8.3 x 8.3, 72dpi

4. Acceptable file formats: jpg, png, pdf not to exceed 2mb

5. Deadline for submitting work - Monday August 8th

Entries will be judged on the following criteria: originality and creativity, usage of typography, and connectivity to the theme of SHAOLIN JAZZ.

323East, 5E Gallery, La Famiglia and The J Dilla Foundation are proud to announce that they will be hosting an international group exhibition in tribute to the legendary producer and recording artist James Dewitt Yancey, aka J Dilla. This Exhibit will celebrate the life of and contribute to the legacy of J Dilla through visual art.

This exhibition is a fundraiser and awareness campaign for the J Dilla Foundation, a non-profit organization founded to help fund inner-city music programs, and provide scholarships to students attending schools that have progressive music curricula.. A portion of proceeds generated from this exhibit will be donated to The J Dilla Foundation to help fund their ongoing programs.

Artists from around the world are invited to submit original artwork in any format for consideration. All submissions must be inspired by J Dilla. Artists can submit artwork via email.
